History of breed
The Damara is an ancient and unique breed of sheep. Damara sheep were thought to have originated in the Middle East about 9000 BC. The Himba tribe of Kaokoland have been farming the Damaras since the 15th Century. In the 20th century farmers discovered the breed in Northern Namibia. Damaras were introduced to Australia in 1996 where they have thrived in pastoral and wheatbelt areas.
